SINGAPORE: Several passengers were injured on Thursday (Oct 15) after a chain collision involving three public buses in Yishun.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, bus operator Tower Transit Singapore said the accident happened at a bus stop at Block 790 Yishun Ave 2 at about 3.05pm.
A Tower Transit bus operating service 853 rear-ended an SBS Transit bus operating service 852, causing a chain collision with another SBS Transit bus operating service 851, it said, adding that six people had reported injuries.
SBS Transit spokesperson Grace Wu said the Service 852 bus also mounted the kerb following the impact.
Five passengers on Service 852 were injured, with three taken to the hospital for treatment, she said in response to CNA's queries.
"We have since managed to speak to two of them and are still trying to reach the remaining passenger to check on their well-being and offer any assistance they may need," she added.
No injuries were reported on Service 851, and the bus captains of both SBS Transit buses were not hurt, she said, adding that the uninjured passengers on both buses were transferred to other buses.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the accident at about 3.05pm.
Three people were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, while two others were assessed for minor injuries and declined to be taken to hospital, SCDF told CNA.
Police said the three passengers taken to hospital were a 75-year-old man and two women, aged 48 and 52. All three were conscious when taken to hospital.
A 35-year-old male bus driver is assisting with investigations, police added. Investigations are ongoing.
Tower Transit said earlier that its team was at the scene assisting those injured in the collision.
In an update at 4.55pm, Tower Transit said it was trying to contact the three people taken to hospital to offer care and support.
"We’re really sorry for the hurt and inconvenience this has caused them and other road users," it said.
Tower Transit added that it was working with the traffic police, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and SBS Transit to support investigations.
It also urged anyone who was on any of the buses, or had a family member who was, to contact it at 1800 248 0950. The transport operator said the road remained passable to traffic.
