MELBOURNE : Highlights of the ninth day of the Australian Open on Monday (times GMT):

0702 SONEGO THROUGH TO FIRST SLAM QUARTER-FINAL

Italy's Lorenzo Sonego reached the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam for the first time with a 6-3 6-2 3-6 6-1 victory over American qualifier Learner Tien.

Tien was playing his seventh match at Melbourne Park after coming through qualifying and the marathon campaign seemed to take its toll on the 19-year-old.

0641 SINNER STOPS RUNE

Defending champion Jannik Sinner took a medical timeout and looked in trouble in the third set but battled to a 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-2 win over 13th seed Holger Rune.

"It was very, very tough... I tried to stay there mentally," the Italian said after securing a berth in the quarter-finals. "It was a strange morning. I didn't warm up today so I could go on court as fit as I could."

0555 RUNE V SINNER PAUSED DUE TO DAMAGED NET

Jannik Sinner and Holger Rune were asked to return to the locker room after organisers were unable to quickly fix the net when its anchoring pin in the middle came loose.

The fourth-round match at Rod Laver Arena had already been paused when both players took medical timeouts. Sinner was leading 6-3 3-6 6-3 0-1 when the match was put on hold.
