Calls for easier work pass approvals to replace staff on parental leave

13:20 Min

Business associations in Singapore are calling for easier work pass approvals and financial subsidies, when hiring temporary workers to stand in for staff on parental leave. This comes ahead of policy changes on parental leave this year. Starting Apr 1, new Singaporean fathers who are working can take up to four weeks of paternity leave and an extra six weeks of leave shared with their working wives. Dr Kalpana Vignehsa from the NUS Institute of Policy Studies shares her views on whether current measures, like more generous parental leave and childminding services, are sufficient for parents and parents-to-be. She also discusses what more can be done to support those looking to start families.
