Committee of Supply 2025 debate, Day 2: Joan Pereira on strengthening mental health support for NSFs
Mental health challenges, stress, anxiety or the pressure of adapting to new environments are a natural part of life and can affect anyone regardless of their background, age or rank, particularly for many of Singapore’s young men who enlist at the age of 18. The stress of gruelling physical training, mental load from adjusting to military life and the emotional struggles of being away from their loved ones and the comforts of home can be overwhelming for them. MP Joan Pereira said this in parliament on Monday (Mar 3), where she asked the Ministry of Defence for an update on efforts to ensure that all soldiers have adequate mental health support.
