Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 6: Koh Poh Koon on regulation of mental health professionals
As awareness of mental health grows and demand for care rises, Singapore is moving to better regulate professionals in the sector. It will register five higher-risk sub-disciplines of psychologists to ensure high standards of practice and professional conduct. Meanwhile, an accelerated pathway to specialise in Clinical Psychology at Master’s level will be offered to eligible undergraduates at the National University of Singapore, starting this year. Senior Minister of State for Health Koh Poh Koon announced these steps in parliament on Thursday (Mar 5). He outlined his ministry’s plans to meet rising healthcare needs, improve the care experience for patients and build a sustainable, adaptable workforce and system.
