Heng Chee How on SAF’s overseas training
Overseas training enables the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) to hone its war-fighting skills in complex scenarios, realistic conditions and varied terrains. There is also the benefit of learning and benchmarking with Singapore's foreign counterparts, and opportunities for SAF personnel to contribute back to the local communities, thus strengthening bilateral ties. Senior Minister of State for Defence Heng Chee How said this in response to an MP’s questions in parliament on Monday (Mar 10). He added that safety is prioritised in all local and overseas training and detailed risk assessments are required, together with concrete plans to avoid injuries. In overseas training, there are specific link-ups into the medical systems of Singapore's overseas partners in the event of injuries, said Mr Heng.
