Josephine Teo on investigations into 3 Singtel network disruptions in March
Between Mar 16 and 18, Singtel experienced difficulties with its mobile service network. The incident on Mar 16, which affected more than 600,000 customers, was caused by a mechanical fault. A separate incident on Mar 17 affected about 2,000 customers due to a software bug. On Mar 18, some customers experienced intermittent connectivity issues during peak network traffic. The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) is investigating the incidents and so far, there is no evidence that they were caused by cyber attacks. Digital Development and Information Minister Josephine Teo, who gave this update in reply to MPs’ questions in parliament on Tuesday (Apr 7), said IMDA will publish its findings after investigations are completed and will not hesitate to take strong regulatory action should any lapses be identified.
