Motion: Eileen Chong on artificial intelligence transition with no jobless growth

11:08 Min

Much of the discourse on the AI-driven economic transition has focused on the need for workers to upskill and remain relevant but it does not answer an equally important question - the equitable distribution of the AI productivity dividend, said NCMP Eileen Chong. Employers are the default beneficiaries - due to more output from the same headcount or the same output from a lower headcount. One way to share the AI productivity dividend with workers could be through time, she said in parliament in Wednesday (May 6). She urged the government to legislate flexible work arrangements so that workers can re-claim the productivity gains as time for rest, care and connection.
