Toyota plans to build three assembly plants in India's Maharashtra: Nikkei reports
Toyota Motor is looking to expand production capacity in India, with plans to build three vehicle assembly plants in the state of Maharashtra. According to Nikkei reports, the new plants would triple Toyota's capacity in India by the 2030s to about 1 million vehicles a year. Analysts see this as part of a larger shift towards fast-growing markets as demand in the US and China slows. Toyota currently has three plants in southern India, which mainly serve the domestic market. India is Toyota's third-largest market outside Japan for car sales. Rebecca Bundhun reports from Mumbai.
